Shredding documents containing personal or confidential information remains the best way to ensure they will never be stolen or compromised. For businesses, this is equally important to prevent any clients’ data from being exposed and to avoid developing a bad reputation.

That’s why the Staten Island Small Business Development Center partnered with Richmond County District Attorney Michael E. McMahon and Mid-Island Councilman David Carr to host a free paper shredding event on May 31 at the College of Staten Island campus.

Regional Director Michael Anderson joined members of McMahon and Carr’s staff to load paper into garbage pails before the pails were hoisted into the shredding truck. Meanwhile, Certified Business Advisor Joe Muller and Office Manager Angela Chuppe were on hand to speak with drivers and inform them about the services the Staten Island SBDC offers.

The weekend event attracted 160 cars, and many expressed appreciation for the opportunity to save time and money by driving to CSI to have their papers shredded. The event shredded a whopping 3.69 tons of paper documents and files.

Special thanks to Sophie Selwood, Community Liaison for the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office, for coordinating the event and ensuring a smooth day. Staff members of the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office, as well as Michael Pardo, Director of Constituent Services for Councilman Carr’s Office, kept the lines moving throughout the four hours by assisting with paper collection.
