Shop Small on Saturday, November 25th!
The Staten Island SBDC along with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce have rallied the community to urge shoppers this holiday season to #ShopSmall. As “Neighborhood Champions” with the American Express sponsored Small Business Saturday initiative, a press conference was held on November 14th at the Cape House Gallery in Staten Island. The owners of the Cape House Gallery were gracious hosts to community residents, small business community members, news outlets, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
“Small Business Saturday is a major event across the country where we go out and support the local businesses in our community, which are the backbone, or the spine, or the thread of our neighborhoods,” said Beth Goldberg, New York District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
So, why is Small Business Saturday an important day to rally our community?
For starters, for every $100 spent in your local small businesses, $68 stays right in your local economy!
“It makes people aware…that we can provide them with a very special and personalized service,” noted Elaine Putonti, owner of the Cape House Gallery. “It’s very important because it raises the awareness in the community about small businesses, which sometimes gets lost in the internet and the big box stores.”
Get social with the SBDC!
If your business is hosting a special event or sale, send us an email. If you’re a consumer, let us know who is on your shopping list! Follow along on social media throughout the day to see where the SBDC team and local residents are shopping on Staten Island. Don’t forget to tag @sisbdc and use #ShopSmallStatenIsland to have your posts featured!
